Did the Nazis use water fluoridation in their concentration camps for the purpose of "mass medication"? While searching for information about this, the name Charles E Perkins shows up. Perkins was supposedly a chemist and/or researcher who wrote the book, "The Truth about Water Fluoridation". Information supposedly supplied by Perkins is pretty much the sole authority of the Nazis use of fluoridation. Another story is Perkins was supposedly in contact with the German chemists of I.G. Farben after the war and was told of the “scheme (to) control the population in any given area through mass medication of (fluoridated) drinking water.” further “Repeated doses of infinitesimal amounts of fluoride will in time reduce an individual's power to resist domination by slowly poisoning and narcotising a certain area of the brain, and will thus make him submissive to the will of those who wish to govern him”.
A search of the internet of Charles E Perkins revealed a digitized version of the book, "The Truth about Water Fluoridation". Perkins was obviously no proponent of fluoridated water and gives a detailed explanation why. He also believed fluoridated water started as a communist plot, but the book contains no mention of the use of fluoride by the Nazis at all. As a matter of fact, there is no documentation to even prove the illicit use of fluoridation by the Russians. He simply states, "Mass medication, involving fluoridation of public water systems, has long been known as an important technique of the Communist philosophy of mass control." The story is Perkins was asked to better explain his Russian fluoridation comments in his book and the resulting letter brought to life the Nazi information.
“The following letter was received by the Lee Foundation for Nutritional Research, Milwaukee Wisconsin, on 2 October 1954, from a research chemist by the name of Charles Perkins. 'I have your letter of September 29 asking for further documentation regarding a statement made in my book, "The Truth about Water Fluoridation", to the effect that the idea of water fluoridation was brought to England from Russia by the Russian Communist Kreminoff. In the 1930's Hitler and the German Nazis envisioned a world to be dominated and controlled by a Nazi philosophy of pan-Germanism. The German chemists worked out a very ingenious and far-reaching plan of mass-control which was submitted to and adopted by the German General Staff. This plan was to control the population in any given area through mass medication of drinking water supplies. By this method they could control the population in whole areas, reduce population by water medication that would produce sterility in women, and so on. In this scheme of mass-control, sodium fluoride occupied a prominent place'. http://www.greaterthings.com/Lexicon/F/Fluoride.htm
The problem here is Perkins not only does not address his Russian comments, he also offers no documentation as to the additional information about the Nazis. There is also a reference on the same web page, that shows up on many anti-fluoridation sites, that the use of fluoridated water by the Nazi’s was documented in the book, “The Crimes and Punishment Of I.G. Farben”. by Joseph Borkin; this is also is false. I read have the book and did a digital search for "fluor" (fluoride, fluoridation, fluorine) and fluoxetine with no hits.
Another web site, http://members.iimetro.com.au/~hubbca/fluoride.htm ,
combines both stories;
In an "Address in Reply to the Governor's Speech to Parliament", Mr. Harley Rivers Dickinson, Liberal Party Member of the Victorian Parliament for South Barwon, Australia (In Australia, parliamentarian Mr. Harley Dickenson raised the issue in the Victorian Legislative council, which is recorded in the official Hansard report on August 12th, 1987) made a statement on the historical use of fluorides for behaviour control. Mr. Dickinson reveals that, "At the end of the Second World War, the United States Government sent Charles Elliot Perkins, a research worker in chemistry, biochemistry, physiology and pathology, to take charge of the vast Farben chemical plants in Germany. While there, he was told by German chemists of a scheme which had been worked out by them during the war and adopted by the German General Staff…This scheme was to control the population in any given area through mass medication of drinking water. In this scheme, sodium fluoride occupied a prominent place”.
Pretty much word for word from Perkins then 35 year old letter. Further, there is no mention in Perkins book that he had any connection to I.G. Farben and no mention of Charles Perkins in "The Crimes and Punishment of I.G. Farben."
There is also another false argument that fluoridation is forbidden in Germany. The truth is Germany, like most European countries gets their water from wells and fluoridation of the wells is extremely problematic. That is why in addition to iodine, the salt in these countries is fluoridated for the same reason water is fluoridated in the US.
The other argument I have heard is the similarity between fluoride, fluorine, and fluoxetine (Prozac). Flourine is the component in fluoride that bonds and strengthens teeth. Prozac also contains fluorine, but at a much lower level by mass (10%). So the idea that fluoride has similar effects to Prozac ignores the fact the two by definition, possess different chemical and physical properties. Finally, let me say that I do not believe that water should be fluoridated. Fluoride works best when applied directly to the teeth, such as with toothpaste. Fluoride appears to be an accumulative poison, and the long-term affects continue to be debated. Fortunately my town does not fluoridate its water, so there's no safety issue for my myself or family. But I also don’t believe fluoridation is the outcome of a Communist plot or used by the Nazis, and is more the result of the nanny state and financial interests. We need to stand up and be heard on all things that matter, and water fluoridation matters. But lets make sure that the facts don't take a back seat.

Thank you for doing that research. It's a facet of fluoridation that I chose never to wrap my brain around because we have so much credible science showing fluoridation is ineffective & Harmful
ReplyDeleteEven though your own water is not fluoridated doesn't mean you don't ingest fluoridated water via foods in restaurants and supermarkets.
We all have to tell our legislators to stop adding fluoride to our public water supplies. And then we have to tell our neighbors to do the same thing.

research spoiler! Sorry but online research of this kind is NOT reliable. Look at whats said, a search was done for the fluoride terms with the online free version of "The crime and punishment of IG Farben". Well, if the researcher had actually read the online version they would see that it is missing fully ONE THIRD of the book! So unless they have evidence that the original COMPLETE book does not contain the references, then we are back at square one. But digital books have been shown once again to NOT be reliable for this kind of detailed research. I am continuing my research on this subject with old fashion actual reading, not quick ref searches of free digital copies which are CLEARLY unreliable.
Deletewhen you get past the 'hype'.... there is good scientific reasoning to cease all water fluoridation.
ReplyDeleteHave we been duped about the need to fluoridate our drinking water?
Why on earth would you want to remove fluoride? It helps keep your teeth healthy doesn't it? That my dear friends is the $64,000 question. Actually it could end up eventually costing you more than that IF your value your health.

Sorry... but I don't believe "internet searches" constitute RESEARCH. I never read the Perkins letter to claim that the Nazis ever implemented the "scheme," but that they did research and develop the idea. Just because there is no "internet" proof that they ever used fluoride in such a manner does not mean that Dr. Perkins' letter is in question.
ReplyDeleteCowboy, what my article says is quite simple; there is absolutely no proof, other than anecdotal, that fluoride was ever used by Germany or Russia for the purposes of sedation. Further the burden of proof is that it did occur, not that it didn't. Internet searches included data bases that include more published material then is available in most college libraries; all my references were published material. I took an objective view of this issue and only knew that the often quoted reference to "The Crimes and Punishment of I.G. Farben" was incorrect. The Nazis were meticulous in documenting everything that was done in the concentration camps. So I put the ball back in your camp, as . If you can find any reliable documentation that shows the Nazis or anyone else ever used fluoride to control prisoners and I will reverse my opinion in an instant.
ReplyDeletePlease read my comment above. The online free version of that book and many others, if people actually read them, rather than just done a quick ref search, would realize that fully one third of the book is NOT available. So unless you have purchased and read the original copy, you don't know that the references are not in it. Pain in the ass, but thats the reality. Digital info is too easily manipulated and altered. The infamous quote from club of rome about using global warming to show humanity is the enemy, is not to be found in ANY online versions. But it is in the original first two printings of the book, and not the later ones!! I wonder why that is?? COINCIDENCE probably. lol.. Look, all I'm saying again here is that, digital scanned research into detailed areas are NOT very accurate from online sources.. We is going to have to get off our asses and go out and find out ourselves..
DeleteIf there were documents, and the US government had found documentation and was using the results in their own program, the proof would be concealed. Therefore, we must look to science and forget the conspiracy: you have to see the bigger picture to understand the machinations of modern tyrants, and most people don't have that kind of scope, hence why there is no stopping the globalization of the world let by a plutocracy through corporatism; it's a game of chess and they are 20 steps ahead.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the most sensible comments I have seen so far. I've done a little research myself, and there are several studies that indicate quite conclusively that fluoride has the effect of calcifying the pineal gland, which acts as a sort of chemical magnet for the compound. This calcium buildup has had the effect of inhibiting the gland's functioning, which according to many brain scan studies, is heavily involved in formation and activation of ideological thought such as religious introspection and what would be termed as "righteous anger". Therefore regardless of documentation, which Ada kindly pointed out would be easily taken care of by any perpetrators, science shows that fluoride is indeed injuring our brains. The key factor is whether or not this injury is affecting the national willpower. To answer that question, I'd say the best approach would be to look at the world around you. See a lot of willpower going on?
DeleteWell, if there were, but since it wasn't and isn't their program, that kind of supposition is valueless. Besides, use of Nazi research in other fields went unhidden.
ReplyDelete"Soviets used fluorides in the drinking water of Siberian prison camps to weaken the minds of their prisoners, to make them dull, cowlike and more resigned to their slavery".

Try reading George Racey Jordan's, (ret. Major USAF) diaries.
The problem I have with the George Racey Jordon Diaries is that fluoride is only mentioned in one chapter and that chapter did not show up in any of the published books. So one has to question it's authenticity.
ReplyDeleteGood article. I am saddened that you find that fluoride has enough negative effects to make you glad that your town does not fluoridate. I am for fluoridation of drinking water. However, the conspiracy theory about Nazi and Soviet mind control should be debunked and addressed as bunk more often.
ReplyDeleteWould you consider a simple analogous view of water fluoridation as compared to sodium or caffeine? Both sodium and caffeine are poisonous at large doses, but tasty and helpful in low doses. Couldn't we view fluoride in the same light?
I do believe that the topical and systemic use of fluoride is a one, two punch for oral hygiene, that has numerous and demonstrable positive effects studied over thousands of individuals independently across the planet compared to the few debatable negative effects.
If we could keep any rebuttal in this context without talking about the CHOICE of whether the people should receive fluoride or not, then I'm all ears.
I personally think the choice of fluoridation is a good and reasonable point.
I believe, as has been scientifically proven, that the topical use of fluoride strengthens teeth against cavities. Saying that there has been little to no research on the systemic effects of fluoride when you eat it. By definition fluoride is accumulative,as it builds up in your teeth. The issue is; what happens when it builds up in your body? While you wanted a discussion not based on choice arguments, I must at least mention that when fluoride is in my water I have no way to meter how much fluoride I take in. I use a fluoride toothpaste and as a competitive cyclist, I drink about a gallon of water a day. The old toothpaste warnings said that if you consume more than a pea size amount of fluoride, then you should seek medical treatment. In Europe they don't put fluoride in the water because they get most of their water from springs; they put fluoride in the salt, the same way we put iodine in salt. At least in Europe you can control your fluoride intake through your use of salt, once it's in your water there is little you can do besides drinking bottled water. I just don't think that an entire population should have to monitor their intake of water to make sure their fluoride levels are safe.
ReplyDeleteThanks for responding. If I sent you a link to a video addressing some of your concerns would you allow me to post it on this feed?
ReplyDeleteThere is .7 fluoride in Apollinaris mineral water. The Nazi SS drank this stuff, believing it would give them good health.
ReplyDeleteCan there be a connection?
Motown, send to link and I'll check it out. The worst that could happen is I delete it, but I assure you I will watch it and respond.
ReplyDeleteIt is always good to become as informed as possible before making decisions as a self determining individual. I have been using non fluoride toothpaste for over 5years, live in a non fluoridated jurisdiction and do not drink the water when I travel to a fluoridated area of the world. Guess what? no cavities... Now I do not offer this as proof of anything. But it would seem that the issue gets lost admist all of the opnions and egos. The issue is preventing cavities. I have been reading up on both sides of this issue for easily 10 years before deciding that I would err on the side of caution and care for my teeth without fluoride. And so far it has been pretty successful. I see nothing on this site which compels me to change my mind but many thanks to the author for posting your thoughts and opinions. The crux of this issue lies with choice. I believe that we should all take personal responsibility for our lives and well-being, do our own research and think twice before blindly joining any "camp" and act because so-and-so wrote a convincing blurp with a couple links and name drops. It has become increasingly difficult in this quick paced age, but we must remember how to think and act for ourselves.
Deleteanthony, the purpose of this post was not to compels you to change my mind. The purpose was to offer reliable information so one can make an intelligent decision. There are many seemingly good reasons why one would not want fluoride in their water; it simply should not be based on the belief that is was used by Nazi's on the their victims in the concentration camps, because as far as I can determine, it never happened.
DeleteThere is a vast difference between the largely INSOLUBLE calcium fluoride that occurs naturally in ground water, as compared to the SOLUBLE sodium fluoride salts and silicofluorides added to 90% of the drinking water in USA, as these latter compounds are waste byproducts of industrial processes, are proven tainted with toxic chemicals used in the refining process, and more importantly have dramatically different reactions in the human body than the former.
ReplyDeleteThis particular aspect of the Fluoridation issue is addressed at the page in the following link, while the links on the left margin point lead to almost every conceivable point in this debate.
http://www.fluoridedebate.com/question03.html
CaF has a solubility of .015g/L in water, while target fluoride deployment is at .0001g/L, so solubility has nothing to do with it. Further, the resultant solubility makes a positive Calcium ion and a negative Fluoride ion. The only dramatic difference is that one tastes salty (Sodium ion) and the other adds to the calcium in your bloodstream. It is the fluoride ion that does the work, or the poisoning, depending on the concentration, and anything can poison you in enough quantity. Have a look at Median Lethal Dose on Wikipedia, and see that water tops the list, while table sugar follows at second. Why? Because everything has to do with concentration, and typical fluoridation levels are 5x below the risk level. Lastly, sodium fluoride is highly soluble, and is pissed out what is not used. It does not accumulate in the body any more than table salt does. Thanks.
DeleteBrian your view is over simplified and neglects the fact that fluoride added to the water is usually Na2SiF6 which does not break into a simple C to 2 F- ratio. infact the SiF part of the compound is not even an ionic bond so your logic is more in question.
Deleteyou also oversimplify the process of compounds getting into and out of the blood stream either via elimination or absorption. The body is better at getting rid of some things that others.
these things combined punch a lot of holes in your neat little explanation of its safety due to non accumulation.
I am not knowledgeable enough to know the differences this creates so i wont try to sound scientific and lay out a method of action for increased toxicity. I am not qualified to do that and I do not wish to miss lead from ignorance and ego.
From the little i do know, I know it is worth looking into instead of ignoring(as you did).
On top of that, do you care to explain the existence of skeletal fluorosis? are they not pissing enough?
Markmac, I did not want this to be a fluoride debate per se. My point was to throwout the whole NAZI reference and as much proxy science as possible and have a credible debate.
ReplyDeleteFrom a post I made at an SSRI forum:
ReplyDelete"I love how the "chemists" on this board are simultaneously shills for the status quo, as if the integrity of their profession depends vitally on defending the addition of rat poison to our water supply! It's absolutely absurd.
Apparently the "intelligent" response to the realization that the toxic fluorine molecule is a constituent of SSRIs is to simply parrot the idea that it's "inert" without questioning why the hell they would put it in the drug if it was inert! What, you really think they ONLY add the fluorine as a structural element? Please, where did you study chemistry...DeVry university online?
The truth about chemistry is not that some molecules attach and are just "inert" but rather that their is a synergistic interaction between different atoms of a given molecule. Just like sodium and chlorine have a synergistic overall property of being table salt--so too will Fluorine definitely have a given synergistic effect if it is added to the molecular ring of an antidepressant...
There is no hard science supporting fluorides effect at preventing cavities. You'll note that almost all the studies the government uses in support of fluoridation are decades old epidemiological studies, which merely look for correlations between sets of population data. For instance--ice cream sales and murder rates are strongly positively correlated during the summer months. An epidemiological survey would support and has supported such data. You wouldn't therefore conclude that ice cream CAUSES murders though, as that would be absurd. Not only that, but the epidemiological studies supposedly in support of fluoridation, if you actually look at the data clearly demonstrate that the effect of fluoridation is NOT statistically significant! What we're actually seeing in the data is effects on the level of people having a HALF LESS CAVITY in their lifetime. Sorry, this does not hold up.
Alternatively, Jennifer Luke's scientific study which actually manipulated variables under controlled conditions found that fluoride definitely accumulates in the pineal gland of biological organisms and disrupts its hormonal activity.
We're supposed to call the poison control center for swallowing a pea sized amount--yet, in states such as new york where I live, the same amount of sodium fluoride in that amount of toothpaste is found in an eight ounce glass of water?! This is absurd...we need to wake up. The pharmaceutical industry is bought and paid for by the money changers who are printing money that's backed by less than your average roll of toilet paper---fluoride is poison--period.
Food for thought (a former fluoride advocate explains why he changed his mind):
